Body Found in State Park Identified
Elkridge woman, 46, reportedly took own life.
The body found in the Patapsco River in the Avalon area of Patapsco State Park Saturday morning has been identified as a 46-year-old Elkridge woman who reportedly took her own life.
According to Maryland State Police, the woman drove to the park at around 7:47 a.m. and apparently took an undetermined number of pills.
A fisherman saw the woman wade into the river and sit in about a foot of water. The fisherman called to the woman, who did not respond but was moving around. He moved upstream and had no further contact with the woman.
At 9:45, two people visiting the park saw the woman face-down in the water and called 911. Crews from Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the woman was deceased.
Sgt. Craig Williams, of the Maryand State Police Golden Ring barracks, said that interviews with the woman's family and other evidence led to a determination that the death was suicide.
