Elkridge Inspires New Coffee Shop, Its Name, Too

Yummies cafe is inside Green Valley Marketplace.

Elkridge residents asked for it, and they got it.

A coffee shop opened in Elkridge on Wednesday inside , a development that evolved from the community's interest, said store management.

Named "Yummies," the cafe will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"Our bakery does so well, and people kept saying, 'These things are so yummy,' that we thought, we're going to use the name 'Yummies,'" said Green Valley's chief operating officer, Rick Rodgers.

"So really, the neighborhood came up with the name," said Rodgers, who lives less than 2 miles from the Montgomery Road grocery store. "We just expanded on it and said, 'Let's create a brand with it.'"

Yummies is in a section located near the store's entrance, displaying a case full of bagels, patries, muffins, donut-muffins and other breakfast foods. Fruits, sandwiches and other lunch items from the deli are in a refrigerated area nearby.

Two flat-screen TVs are mounted so that customers can sit at a counter and watch, eat or use the free wireless internet the store now offers.

Rodgers said that outdoor seating will be available, too.

He said he envisioned people getting breakfast at Yummies before grocery shopping or grabbing a cup of coffee when they stop in to buy lunch on the way to work.

"From the standpoint of convenience," said Rodgers, "you can't beat us."
