Elkridge Motors Case Withdrawn
The Department of Planning and Zoning dismissed a citation against Elkridge business owner Brian Wilson.
Elkridge Motors resolved its differences with Howard County’s Department of Planning and Zoning before a hearing scheduled for Monday night.
The Howard County hearing examiner was to determine with whether Brian Wilson, owner of Elkridge Motors, should be allowed to use part of his property as a parking lot.
The Department of Planning and Zoning argued that he should not, since the parcel in question was not zoned for commercial use.
A Feb. 6 hearing on the issue lasted an hour and a half but ended with a postponement after Wilson said he had not been provided all the information from the county about his case.
The second installment of the hearing was slated for March 5, and that evening, officials left a note at the entrance to the George Howard Building stating that the case had been withdrawn.
The Howard County Times reported that the Department of Planning and Zoning dismissed a civil citation that sparked the Elkridge Motors zoning case in the first place.
Elkridge Motors was cited by the Department of Planning and Zoning last March for "parking or storage of unregistered, inoperable, wrecked, dismantled or destroyed motor vehicles," according to a technical staff report.
Since Wilson corrected the issue and removed said vehicles from his Montgomery Road property, the Howard County Times reported that the county dropped the citation and Wilson withdrew the case.

Brian is a reputable mechanic & has been an icon of Elkridge for years! He gives back to the community and did NOT deserve harassment from our blood sucking county government who clearly has nothing better to do! Sorry you had to go through the hassle Brian.

I drive past Brian's garage every day and I've been wondering how this would turn out. I'm relieved it's over and hope it doesn't come up again. Thanks Brian for all you do for Elkridge especially EYO.

Glad Mr. Wilson and the DPZ could work things out based on the actual facts, and not on the unwarranted complaints of whiners. An excellent example of good business working with local government to get things right! I hope Brian can get back to working on cars again and to coach the youth of the community.

Apparently, these people who praise Mr. Wilson don't have to live with a view of his property. I wonder, due to the amount of vehicles always on the property, how long it takes for Mr. Wilson to do repairs. I find it embarrassing to have people visit me and see the pieces of mostly junk cars on the corner of my street. It is truly an eye sore. The Route 1 corridor businesses look far better than this garage on Montgomery Road. This mess would certainly not be aloud to exist in other parts of Howard County. Guaranteed. Five Stars for not caring about his property or for his neighbors who have to look at this mess.

JW, you are absolutely right. There are junked cars parked at the edge of the property that haven't been moved in months if not years. It's an eyesore and doesn't belong in a residential corridor.

Five stars for Mr. Wilson having a successful business in this economy. So many cars proves that he is an excellent mechanic! Don't like what you see, then move. I guess the whining didn't cut it in the real world, so go get some cheese and crackers and enjoy your whine here on the internet.

Junk cars that sit inoperable for months with no apparent future doesn't indicate an excellent mechanic. That's something you're more apt to see in inner city Baltimore.
