Howard County Firefighters To Wear Pink

Members of the Howard County Professional Fire Fighters will wear a pink breast cancer shirt in October.

Howard County fire fighters will put away their normal blue duty shirt this month and instead wear a pink shirt in support of breast cancer awareness.

Howard County Professional Firefighters, Local 2000, in conjunction with the International Association of Fire Fighters, will be shining the spotlight on breast cancer awareness for the second year in a row.

The demonstration also includes a fundraising effort—t-shirts are also available for purchase.

“This is personal for us,” said Fire Chief William Goddard. “We each know someone, even members of our own department, who have had a bout with cancer or whose families have battled breast cancer. This initiative gives us a visible opportunity to shed light on this deadly disease.”

The money from this initiative will go to support The Red Devils, a nonprofit that helps breast cancer patients and families in Maryland.

Last year, Local 2000 raised more than $12,000 to benefit families struggling with the burden of unexpected costs associated with the disease.
