Viewfinder: Elkridge Healer Leads Mystical Journey Through Reiki

Imagine being in such a surreal state of relaxation that it feels as if you've entered another realm of existence, similar to a dream. Stress and worries melt away and you've found a place where nothing but nothingness exists. That is Reiki.

Reiki is a technique of using the hands as a healing power by balancing and unblocking the chakras.

What are chakras? According to ancient Hindu texts, they are essentially channels of energy that make up your being. Sometimes they get blocked, causing issues. Think of Reiki healing as a sort of cleansing and releasing of any issues you have, on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. 

To help others is just as beneficial for the Reiki master performing the healing. The energy is said to flow through both individuals during the process.  

Heather Lorsong is a Reiki master. I attended her Intro to Reiki Healing group last week in her Elkridge home. During the workshop, she performed mini-Reiki sessions on the attendees to help us gain a sense of what it felt like and how it works. We each had different experiences: one woman saw vivid colors, another man had such powerful energy that Lorsong was slightly thrown aback by it, and my session...well, it took me so long to relax that once I finally did, it was over—but not without awesome after-effects.
