Readers were divided on the issue, and so were Elkridge delegates.
The Senate may vote on the legislation later this week, according to The Washington Post.
Here are excerpts written by Elkridge Patch readers in response to the bill's passage in the House of Delegates:
This bill needs to be stopped…vulnerable children could be adopted by "married" homosexual pedophiles and molested. —Park Won-soon
Are you suggesting that children aren't adopted by STRAIGHT pedophiles and molested? —Thomas Diller
I'm against same sex marriage….It’s like a gateway drug—it opens the door to who knows what. Some folks like animal sex; I guess they will be next...or perverts that like children. Where do we as a society draw the line?? —Kim Dixon
Hilarious! So same sex marriage is now a gateway drug to bestiality and pedophilia? You people are too much! —Thomas Diller
…What upsets the majority of the electorate is this demand to be included in an essentially religious institution that is sanctioned by the state….The state was terribly wrong and I predict this will lose at referendum. —Richard Nordeck
...If your child came out as being gay, wouldn't you want them to have the opportunity to unite with someone they love?…Sometimes when we hate, God throws what you hate right in your face… —Tammy B.
Gays and lesbians also have every right to be married and become parents! This issue is about civil rights for this group. These rights have been squelched for these people for too long. I for one cannot wait 'til I can vote yes in a booth at St. Augustine Church this November! —Adam Ritter
…Years down the road people will wonder why we even debated this! —Alicyn DelZoppo via Facebook
