An earthquake struck Virginia and rattled Maryland Tuesday afternoon. At approximately 1:55 p.m., the quake began, caused by what researchers say is the breaking and shifting of subterranean rock. Tremors extended as far as Boston, according to the Boston Globe, and Cleveland, according to the Associated Press. Here's what people in Elkridge had to say on Twitter.

I was at my house sitting on the computer.. my kids were taking a nap.. and all of a sudden the computer desk started shaking.. i didnt think anything of it at first then the whole house started shaking and it was so loud.. i didnt know what to do i ran upstairs got the kids out of bed and we all ran outside.. i was so scared.. i thought the house was going to fall on us
