Community Foundation of Howard County Announces Scholarship Awards for High School Seniors

The Community Foundation of Howard County, which raises, manages and distributes funds to support Howard County nonprofits, recently awarded several grants totaling $43,500 to Howard County seniors in high school planning to pursue higher education:

• Emmanuel S. Mones (Long Reach High School) and Karen J. Dolle (Long Reach High School) received the Mary-Kathryn Abernathy Memorial Scholarship which honors a Long Reach High School student pursuing a career in education or who has been involved in fine arts in the school or community.

• Kevin C. Rohner (River Hill High School) received the Karen and Howard Carolan Scholarship which honors a Howard County High School student who has participated in the Howard County Youth Program.

• Nathan A. Borowski (Hammond High School) received the Michael Chang Sunshine Scholarship which honors a Hammond High School student who responds with care and concern towards the needs of others and has the ability to bring humor to the serious business of life.

• Bizunesh Baldinazzo (Wilde Lake High School), Benjamin Costello (Calvert Hall College High School), Julia DeLuca (Long Reach High School), Sabrina Elshafei (Atholton High School), Kellen McDonald (Mount De Sales Academy), Jessica Qiu (Centennial High School), Carl Vanasse (River Hill High School) and Peyton Walker (River Hill High School) received the John C. Clegg Scholarship which honors a high school student who participated on the Columbia Clippers swim team and has shown a commitment to family community and education.

• Catherine J. McHale (Wilde Lake High School) received the Michael Joseph Deets Scholarship which honors a Wilde Lake High School student pursuing the dream of higher education.

• Mai-Han N. Trinh (Wilde Lake High School) received the Robert J. Gaw Memorial Scholarship which honors a Howard County Public School student pursuing th dream of higher education.

• Kathleen M. Hogan (Centennial High School) received the Freeman K. Hill Teen Scholarship which honors a Howard County High School student demonstrating their religious faith through good citizenship, service to the community and academic achievement.

• Tiffany G. Wun (Marriotts Ridge High School) received the Mark Hollingsworth Scholarship which honors a Marriotts Ridge High School student who responds with care and concern towards the needs of others.

• Jing Xian Wang (Centennial High School) received the Bob Kittleman Scholarship which honors a Howard County High School student who has shown potential in or is accomplished in engineering and the applied sciences.

• Re'Nisha Catice Tann (Hammond High School) and Jennie H. Degenford (Marriotts Ridge High School) received the Mary Ann Levant Scholarship which honors a Marriotts Ridge High School student pursuing the dream of higher education.

• Heather D. McKay (Long Reach High School) received the Doug Parker Scholarship which honors a Howard County High School who has shown a commitment to community involvement, academics and sportsmanship.

• Emily M. Marlatt (River Hill High School) received the Amanda Post “AmandaWins” River Hill Student-Athlete Scholarship which honors a River Hill High School student who played on a junior varsity or varsity sports team and who reflects a joyful and zestful passion for living, consistent with that of Amanda’s life.

• Ruthanna J. Lucas (Centennial High School) and Andre L. Chen (Marriotts Ridge High School) received the Amanda Post “AmandaWins” Soccer Association of Columbia/Howard County Student-Athlete Scholarship which honors Howard County High School students who played on a SAC/HC sports team during their high school years and who reflect a joyful and zestful passion for living, consistent with that of Amanda’s life.

• Santiago Pérez-Roldán (Long Reach High School) received the Wilbon and Mary J. Pulliam Scholarship - Howard County Senior which honors a Howard County High School student pursuing the dream of higher education.

• Sara Jane Dietz (Glenelg High School) received the C. Merritt Pumphrey Scholarship which honors a Howard County High School student pursuing an education in agriculture, animal husbandry and/or a field related to farming.

• Jennifer A. Skinner (Mt. Hebron High School) received the Kit Sfekas Memorial Scholarship which honors a Mt. Hebron High School female athlete who exemplifies the values of teamwork, integrity, good sportsmanship, camaraderie and fun.

• Brandon Z. Weiner (Howard High School) received the Christina and Lawrence Tarbell III Scholarship which honors a Howard High School student pursuing the dream of higher education.

• Ted J. Mallo (Wilde Lake High School), Bryan Paul Billings (Atholton High School), John D. Parsons (Oakland Mills High School) and Mayrui Nilesh Patel (Long Reach High School) received the Tropf Family Scholarship Fund which honors students pursuing an education in mathematics, the physical sciences or engineering.

• Alexis S. Kalivretenos (Centennial High School) received the Phyllis Utterback Scholarship which honors a Howard County High School student with a strong commitment to education and family.

• Elyse S. Smith (Mt. Hebron High School) received the Aaron Worley Scholarship which honors a Howard County High School student with a strong commitment to community involvement, academics and sportsmanship.
