In light of two recent cyclist deaths, Elkridge Patch bloggerChristine Barton highlighted efforts going on around the region to promote safety between motorists and cyclists. “Motorists are required to give cyclists a 3 foot clearance when passing,” she writes. “This is very important because the vehicle's wind-effect can knock a bike off track and into danger, and also, bike-riders may need extra clearance to avoid road hazards.”

Alice Settle-Raskin’s Columbia Patch.com blog covers aspects of the farm-to-table movement. Her most recent post profiles Lewis’ Orchards, located in Cavetown. It has been in the Lewis family for five generations, she writes. According to Raskins, the Lewis family sells its hand-picked fruit at Howard County Farmers’ Markets throughout the week.
