What Would You Improve in Elkridge in 2013?

If you could make a New Year's resolution for Elkridge, what would it be?

More than 45 percent of Americans make a resolution every year, according to statisticbrain.com. Some people vow to live a healthier lifestyle, others promise to spend more time with family, and many say they will try to save money.

As millions of Americans make resolutions to improve their lives, what could we do right here in Elkridge to make it an even better place to live?

What is on your Elkridge wish list? What is one thing you would improve in 2013?

For starters, I think we should raze Rockburn Branch Park and replace it with a casino. Friggin' waste of land. We also need to get rid of any remaining single-family homes that are on more than 1/4 acre of land or are less than 4,500 square feet in size ... what an eyesore those things are!

Have better news on Elkridge patch about what is going on in the community especially with comprehensive zoning and how it can affect Elkridge home prices, asphalt plant on Race Road, and lack of infrastructure in Elkridge ...i.e. schools.. roads, community center, and library. Also having less taxes in Howard County!

I'd like to see more affordable housing for the young people of Elkridge and Howard County. $1700 for a small 2 bedroom apt in a decent area is outrageous. No wonder they have to move to Carroll and Arundel County. Lets do something to keep them right here, if this is where they want to be!

Lets put some speed bumps aka "calming strips" on Hanover and ancillary roads. Surprised that we haven't had a bicyclist of pedestrian run over yet. Let's get a court system that supports law enforcement by putting away the dangerous criminals and let the non-violents like pot smokers a little slack.

@Elle ... LOL, no ... just still an extremely bitter and disgruntled Elkridge resident that is very upset about how this area has been progressing over the past decade and how often that progress makes my life so much worse.... sorry.

I don't need a Chain Restaurant, but if They could put a sports Bar (Lounge, pub) in Eldorado's with Better parking, I could deal with that.

Is it possible to fit a 4500 sq ft + home on less than 1/4 acre of land? I'd love to see some type of community "place to hang". Preferably family owned, small-business- but somewhere individuals, couples, families can go to relax, have a coffee, listen to local music and really foster a sense of community.

How do you propose to accomplish this? Government subsidies, i.e., higher taxes? HoCo residents already pay the highest taxes in the state.

In what way they present a public danger?

get rid of the sleaze motels and prostitues on route 1
djp952 January 04, 2013 at 07:08 AM
@K D Stewart ... it sure is, you just have to look out any window in my house :-) In fairness, I checked SDAT and they are actually only 3800 sq. ft., so you're right. They still don't fit on 1/4 acre without being built diagonally on the lot and ignoring the permanent structure/property line laws, though. My point was intentionally (although barely( exaggerated.
