Global Metal Firm Buys Elkridge Electronics Business

Sims Metal Management, which operates recycling facilities in 260 countries across five continents, announced it has purchased a business in Elkridge.

The Australia-based recycling company bought at 7575 Washington Blvd. in Elkridge for an undisclosed price, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.

Since its founding in 2003,  for its service in the community as a champion of sustainability, breaking down electronics into commodities like metal, glass and plastic and reusing devices that are still functional.

In 2006, E-Structors contracted with Howard County to process all of its e-cyclable materials from the landfill.

In 2011, the Elkridge business  after it reduced its own waste to the point where it was landfill-free.

With the purchase of E-Structors, Sims Recycling Solutions (the North American division of Sims) makes its first entry into Maryland and the D.C. area.

Having a location in the Baltimore-Washington corridor enhances the ability of Sims Recycling Solutions to serve clients in the federal government, specifically the Department of Defense, the president of Sims Recycling Solutions said in a press release.

Terms of the purchase were not disclosed, according to Waste Management World.

The founders of E-Structors, Mike and Julie Keough, were not immediately available for comment.
