Green Valley Marketplace has been abuzz with activity since it  that it was moving into the former Superfresh space in Elkridge Corners shopping center.

Officials said that work on the facade should be done ahead of the grand opening, which will be at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

"We’re still very much a work in progress but we’re going to have a lot of activity," said Barb Devine, director of merchandising and procurement for B. Green, the store's parent company.

As part of the grand opening festivities, Devine said there will be free tote bags for first 100 customers and different events, like face painting over the weekend.

There will also be tastings and some gift bags filled with "goodies," such as deli items.

"Green Valley Marketplace will have what we call our 'Green Valley favorites,'" said Devine. "We put a lot of work into finding and creating recipes for things that are what we think is a step above or different than the cookie-cutter items that you find in the grocery stores these days."

According to Devine, Green Valley Marketplace will offer tastings so customers can get a feel for the new store's selection. She said it will also offer competitive pricing.

Let's hope that they also do good things for the community like Superfresh. Superfresh wasn't just a grocery store...it was a neighbor.

Fully agree with Lisa B...if the new store isn't meeting our expectations (and I'm hopeful it will), we need to let them know ASAP!!

I am so happy they are finally replacing our Superfresh with a new grocery store. I have been shopping there for 16 years. As a full time realtor and horse owner with a very busy schedule, having a grocery store within walking distance of my home is a godsend. Going to Giant or having to stop at some other store on the way home from work is PITA. Besides the fact that I think Giant's pricing is very high, The parking lot is very tight and the people are not very friendly. I hear that it's (Green Valley) is going to be a very nice store. Let's hope they actually have their sale items in stock when they advertise them. That was my biggest complaint about Superfresh.

I have been there twice already and I love it. The prices are great and everyone is kind and helpful. I was so excited that we got a new grocery store the great prices because I was tired of driving all the way to Food Lion or Walmart and Giants prices are too high. I think that it is a great improvement to the shopping center. Oh, and I think a lot of us are glad that Donna is there as one of the Managers. We enjoyed her pleasant personality when she was the Manager of the Super Fresh.
