Report: Kroger to Buy Harris Teeter for $2.44B

High-end grocery stores won't see name changes, companies say.

You won’t know it from the signs out front, but your local Harris Teeter will soon be owned by The Kroger Co., a Cincinnati, OH chain of grocery stores. Kroger purchased Harris Teeter for $2.44 billion, The Washington Business Journal reported.

Harris Teeter stores will continue to operate without Kroger branding, the companies said.

Harris Teeter operates 212 stores along the East Coast, including 24 in the Washington, DC region. There are several Harris Teeter stores close to Elkridge, including one in in King's Contrivance, Fulton and McHenry Row in Baltimore.
