Route 1 Restaurant Renamed Sushi Q Bar & Grill

The venue that was formerly Hokkaido has changed ownership and ambience.

Months after opened on Route 1, it has changed owners and image.

Sushi Q Bar and Grill came online at the end of April, according to Daniel Kim of Columbia, who bought the business.

He plans to apply for a liquor license, a process he said could take two to three months, and something he hopes will help attract students and add another nighttime option for the Elkridge community.

"We'd like to be here if you're a student or if you live in the community and you want to have a beer and something to eat," said Kim, who told Patch the kitchen would close at 11 p.m. but the sushi bar would remain open until 2 a.m., if and when the liquor license goes through.

Once an application for a liquor license is filed, the case must go through a hearing and the earliest that would happen, according to a department representative, is July 24.

There is no quota of liquor licenses allowed in Howard County, but the business must demonstrate that there is a need, in terms of serving the public.

Kim said there isn't anything like Sushi Q nearby, and that you wouldn't know from its exterior of its sleek image inside. The new name, Sushi Q Bar and Grill, is more in line with the ambience he hopes to create.

Kim brought in his friend, a veteran sushi chef, and new staff. He also lowered prices that the previous owner introduced. The restaurant provides carryout, delivery and dine-in service.

Sushi Q Bar and Grill is located at 6325 Washington Blvd. in Elkridge. The phone number is 410-579-2453. Hours are Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m.–10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.–11 p.m.; and Sunday, 12:30–9 p.m.
