Police: Main Street Window Smashed

A Main Street shop owner found her festive window shattered Tuesday morning.

Sweet Elizabeth Jane owner Tammy Biedman and her staff put a lot of work into their holiday window, so finding it shattered Tuesday morning was especially hard.

"It felt so personal," she said, standing outside the window as Journey from Junk owner Kelli Myers swept up the glass behind her. "Especially after we spent all night, every night for the last month working on it."

Biedman said she got a call from Howard County Police at about 8 a.m. Tuesday saying they were standing guard in front of the window.

Nothing was missing from the holiday display, Biedman said, which was uncovered for Midnight Madness.

Police received a call about the window at about 6:20 a.m. that someone shattered the display window, according to police spokesperson Mary Phalen. The police are investigating.

I was just there this past Sat for Midnight Madness enjoying these beautiful windows and photographing them, how can people be so hateful. Hope they catch the jerk!

I agree anon, and there should indeed be more police to patrol Old E.C. And Yes it is indeed a Jewel!

The speed cameras are supposed to free up the police for more important matters-right? I guess foot patrols are not important.

This has been brought up in the parking meetings. More police coverage in the late night and early morning hours. We get a lot bar crowd lingering past 2am and I've heard them outside up to almost 4am. The rowdiness can occur earlier in the evening as well. Patrols have gotten better since the issues have been brought up with the county council and local law enforcement but it hasn't been consistent during the busy and late hours through the whole week. There is no reason for 6 squad cars to sit in LaPalapa parking lot providing security while we have a rowdy crowd at the middle and bottom of the street.
