Editor's Picks: Elkridge Patch 2011

This past year was a big one in Elkridge.

Between , and , the greater Elkridge community has made my job pretty exciting in 2011.

Something tells me that 2012 will bring just as many rounds of fireworks, especially when it comes to education, transportation and development.

One issue touched all of those this year, rattling the Elkridge community from Hanover to Jessup.

In March 2011, CSX and Maryland Department of Transportation made public that they were evaluating four sites between Baltimore and Washington—one on Hanover at Race roads—for an intermodal facility. This facility would be a hub for cargo, where hundreds of trucks would exchange freight containers with trains each day.

Since Patch covered the at the Greater Elkridge Community Association (GECA) meeting in the spring, we've received more reader requests for follow-up on this issue than we have on any other.

You can bet we'll be covering the intermodal project in 2012, as CSX and MDOT continue through the site evaluation process.
