Elkridge in the Headlines

The media gave Elkridge props for its dry cleaning, picketers, recycling.

  • The Gazette put the spotlight on Elkridge Girl Scout Linh Nguyen, 15, who was mulching and planting alongside other volunteers during Takoma Park's spring cleanup event. The thought behind the cleanup was that nice-looking streets will deter criminal activity—as one of the effort's organizers said in the article, "'[for] bad guys, it's not cool to hang out in petunias.'"
  • Elkridge residents who picketed outside a meeting held by Gov. Martin O'Malley made the front page of The Daily Record. The governor passed the demonstrators' "STOP INTERMODAL NOW" signs on his way to the Wilde Lake Community Center in Columbia, where he was holding a round-table discussion on transportation.
  • A teacher was recognized for her "can-do" attitude by the Catonsville Times. According to the article, Terry Sann started saving the pull tabs from aluminum cans last year after Norbel School organized a drive to benefit charity. Sann continued collecting and now has more tabs than she can fit in her car, according to the article.
  • in Elkridge received an award for its excellence, according to American Drycleaner. Recognized for its customer service, professionalism and performance, the Elkridge business is not your average dry cleaner for another reason; Evans treats goods damaged by fires and natural disasters.
  •  in Elkridge got a shout-out in The Herald-Mail, the newspaper covering western Maryland. In the article that compared recycling in two West Virginia counties, one county provided curbside pickup of goods that go to the Elkridge plant and another requires residents to do the legwork.
