Elkridge Man Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement

An employee of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service charged thousands of dollars on a government-issued credit card, according to court records.

An Elkridge man pleaded guilty to charges of embezzlement, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Sheldon Mixon admitted Friday to stealing between $26,000 and $70,000, according to court records.

An administrative officer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Mixon used his government-issued credit cards to make purchases at retailers like Best Buy and Office Depot between 2008 and 2011, according to court records.

“Mixon faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or up to twice the gain or loss, whichever is greater,” stated a press release from the Department of Justice.

According to his plea agreement, Mixon will forfeit the money he embezzled, the amount of which court officials will determine at sentencing.

Mixon will appear before a federal judge for sentencing on Jan. 11, 2012.
