On this day in 1998, the Baltimore Sun reported on controversy in Elkridge about modifications to US 1 south of Business Parkway. The State Highway Administration (SHA) proposed adding center turn lanes in some parts and medians in others for safety purposes, said the article. Residents said a turn lane would stall traffic, and one business owner—who is currently developing the land next to the —said that it would hamper his project. According to the Sun, the SHA went “back to the drawing board” with its plans after the meeting.
