Head into the day a little more informed.

Maryland Department of the Environment has issued an air quality alert today for Howard, Baltimore, Carroll and Anne Arundel counties. Older adults, asthmatics, people with heart/lung conditions and children should avoid strenuous activities outside, according to officials.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you—there’ a 50 percent chance of rain today in Elkridge. There’s a high of 86 degrees and a low of 67, according to the National Weather Service.

The Howard County Board of Education is meeting today, with one session at 4 p.m. and another at 7:30 p.m.

  • At the 4 p.m. session, one agenda item is cluster assignments for the upcoming school year. The proposed point people for Elkridge area schools are Allen Dyer for Long Reach High School, , and Bellows Spring Elementary School; and Ellen Flynn Giles for Howard High School, and .
  • At the 7:30 p.m. session, the board will have a work session on the FY 2013 capital improvement budget and FY 2014–2018 capital improvement program. These budgets address things like school construction.
  • The Ducketts Lane site is not on the agenda for tonight. It will be discussed next month.
