Fresh food grows in Elkridge and Lawyers Hills woman takes historic know-how to the county.

Today is the last day of Howard County’s Restaurant Weeks, during which restaurants offer menus from $10.11 to $40.11 featuring local fare. On this day in 1994, The Baltimore Sun reported that a woman living in a well-known Elkridge house joined Howard County’s Historic District Commission. Janice Menear told the Sun that she brought “'hands-on’” experience to the commission since she had repaired her 19th-century Lawyers Hill home, The Lawn. Ellicott City and Lawyers Hill are the only historic districts in Howard County, according to the Department of Planning and Zoning, and the seven-member Historic District Commission is tasked with preserving their character. It meets the first Thursday of each month in Ellicott City's .
