Elkridge Today: July 29

Weather: Very hot. Air quality: Not so much.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory, effective Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The high is 98 degrees, but—hold onto your water bottle—it’s going to feel like 103.

The State Highway Administration (SHA) advises parking in the shade and using sunvisors over your windshield. Officials also recommend opening your windows and door when you get in the car, for ventilation before the AC kicks into gear.

In addition to a heat advisory, there’s an air quality alert in effect Friday, issued by Maryland Department of the Environment. People with asthma or heart/lung conditions as well as children and older adults should avoid exercising outside, according to officials.
