Today the U.S. is celebrating Columbus Day, which has been a federal holiday since 1937, according to the History Channel. The event celebrates Christopher Columbus' arrival in the New World on Oct. 12, 1492, and Italian-American heritage in general.
In recognition of the holiday, Howard County is closing many offices, but take note: all parking regulations are still in effect. (If you’re traveling on the Niña, Pinta or Santa Maria, you’re probably OK).
