Happy Halloween!

It’s going to be a big day for Elkridge. There are several school celebrations—see  for information about celebrations and parades.

Long Reach High School sent out a reminder on Friday that students may not wear Halloween attire to school: “Students should not wear costumes or masks to school on Monday, Oct. 31. Students are to follow the HCPSS Dress Code Policy. If any student arrives at school in violation of the dress code, a parent will be called to provide the proper clothing.”

their kids will be trick-or-treating this evening. Bundle up—today's high is 56 degrees with a low of 42, and according to the National Weather Service, there's a 40 percent chance of rain after 8 p.m.

  • In Elkridge, about 30 people turned out for an event called "Coffee and Conversation" with the school board. The discussion at on Saturday got heated. There were heads shaking—and they were the heads of school board members, according to residents, several of whom said they were disappointed with the school system’s lack of responsiveness to their needs as a region. More on that is coming this week.
  • Although Howard County saw a dusting of snow and the weekend storm did take a toll in other parts of the east coast. Five deaths as of Sunday night had been linked to the storm, according to CNN: three in Pennsylvania, one in Connecticut and one in New Jersey.
  • In Howard County, there was one crash reported in connection with slick roadways. James Dennis Ellis Jr., of Columbia, struck a tree off of Little Patuxent Parkway and was partially ejected from his Hyundai Sonata at approximately 9:51 p.m. on Saturday, said police. According to preliminary investigation, plice said the driver was not restrained by the seatbelt. "The Hyundai was traveling too fast for the wet roadway conditions," said police, who reported that Ellis was in stable condition at shock trauma.
  • On Sunday, the Ravens pulled out a win over the Cardinals, 30-27. The Ravens turned the tide after a low-scoring first half to a victory in the last minute of the game, with a last-minute field goal bringing them out ahead. According to analysts, the Ravens set a franchise record by rallying from a 21-point deficit. Ray Rice had three touchdowns. The Ravens are now 5-2.
  • The Cardinals weren't the only ones burned up on Sunday. Elkridge firefighters set a for a training exercise.
