Elkridge Today: October 4

Finally, a place for all those pics of your pets.

Hug your pet—it’s World Animal Day.

Ecologists started World Animal Day in 1931 to raise awareness about endangered species, according to founders. The event has since grown into a celebration of all animals worldwide. The Oct. 4 date was selected to coincide with the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals.

If your pet gets plenty of hugs and you want to do something even more special,  send me a picture—or a few (I know how hard it is to decide). Email images to elizabeth.janney@patch.com for our Elkridge World Animal Day photo gallery.

The high is 67 degrees and the low is 50 today in Elkridge, according to the National Weather Service. There’s a slight chance of showers after noon.
