Elkridge Today: Roads May Be Icy

Winter storm could leave slick roads in its wake.

The high is 36 degrees and the low is 24, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

A until 1 p.m. It snowed overnight (approximately 1 to 3 inches). Freezing rain and sleet will continue until 1 p.m., said the NWS, which forecast a slight chance of rain until 4 p.m. as well.

Because of the freezing temperatures and precipitation overnight, the State Highway Administration (SHA) urged drivers to use caution because roads may be slick.

Here are some tips from the SHA for winter driving: 

  • Drive more slowly, especially on ramps and bridges, which freeze first.
  • Increase following distance.
  • Buckle your seatbelt.
  • If your vehicle starts to skid, take your foot off the gas and turn the wheel into the direction of the skid.
