Elkridge Today: September 22

The Howard County Board of Education is meeting today at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. At the evening session, there will be a public hearing, work session and vote on the FY 2013 Capital Budget and FY 2014–2018 Capital Improvement Program. See the capital budget documents here. Some Elkridge highlights:

  • New elementary school #41—to open in 2013 to relieve the northeast—is second on the list of priority funding areas.
  • New middle school #20—to serve the northeast and southeast portions of the county near the Route 1 corridor—is twelfth on the list of priority funding areas.

It’s World Car Free Day! One Washington, D.C., group has listed all the car-free happenings in the area. According to the World Car Free Day website, the event—now in its 11th year—is meant to promote “new ways of building and thinking [about] the urbanism of our cities, allowing streets to be a living space, rather than only a transit space" and get people thinking about sustainable transportation.
