Elkridge Today: September 27

Rain is in the forecast, Del. Frank Turner to sound off on school board issue and more.

  • Take your umbrella with you today—there’s an 80 percent chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The NWS said the high in Elkridge is 78 degrees today, with a low of 64.
  • The commission to address the makeup of the Howard County Board of Education has submitted its recommendations to County Executive Ken Ulman. At 12:30 p.m. today, Maryland State Del. Frank Turner will hold a press conference on the school board issue in the courtyard of the George Howard Building (3430 Court House Dr.) in Ellicott City.
  • On this day in 2008, the Linwood Center dedicated its Elkridge store to retired fire chief Ed Schilling. The Linwood Center—which provides opportunities for people with autism—opened the store Good Deals Great Stuff on Old Waterloo Road in Elkridge in 2006, with support from Schilling, who provided guidance along the way. The plan was to use the store to employ and train people with autism, a concept now in practice at the Linwood Center Boutique on Ellicott City’s Main Street. “Although Good Deals Great Stuff is closed, it served as the guide for all current and future employment and training programs Linwood will provide to the autism community,” stated Linwood Center on its website. Where Good Deals Great Stuff used to be, there is now a Zips Dry Cleaners in Elkridge.
