It’s going to rain most of the day. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch, effective through the afternoon for central Maryland, including Howard County. “The threat for heavy rain will persist through at least Thursday,” said the NWS, reporting that Tropical Storm Lee “interacting with a warm front” was causing heavy rains. If you plan to drive, keep this information from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in mind:
- Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and possible stalling.
- A foot of water will float many vehicles.
- Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles, including SUVs and pickup trucks.
- Watch for flooding at bridges and dips in the road. If it looks flooded, turn around; don't drown.
