Elkridge Today: September 9

There's a flood watch in effect until 8 p.m.

There’s a flash flood watch until 8 p.m. in Howard County. “Conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding,” said the National Weather Service (NWS). On Friday morning, the NWS issued the watch, which applies to parts of Maryland, northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.

One or two inches of rain may fall, said the NWS, but even small amounts could cause floods in already high-water areas. Rain will likely continue through Friday, but sunny skies are in the forecast for Saturday afternoon, according to the NWS.

Currently, there aren’t any reported road closures in Howard County. Throughout the day, we’ll be updating information as it comes in . Write in the comments if you see road closures that are missing from our list.

On this day last year, first responders ran through Elkridge on a tour of duty to honor those who lost their lives from the 9/11/01 attacks. This Sunday, Howard County will hold a remembrance ceremony to honor the fallen from 9/11 at . It will be at the park's south entrance at 8:30 a.m, with the county council and county executive among attendees. First responders will hold an additional service at Howard County's Public Safety Training Center (2200 Scott Wheeler Dr) in Marriottsville fom 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Both events are open to the public.
