Flash Flood Watch Issued for Elkridge

Bursts of heavy rainfall are coming after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Howard County, effective until 10 p.m. Flash flooding occurs when there is heavy rainfall over a short period of time.

Though the morning didn't eke out much in the way of rain, officials say it is on its way. “The intensity of showers and isolated thunderstorms will increase through the afternoon,” according to the report, which indicated that downpours will be more likely after 2 p.m.

In the event of flash flooding, officials advise citizens to seek high ground and avoid driving on partially submerged roadways because water depth is often unclear.
