Flash Flood Watch in Effect for Howard County

Weather service said rain, wind, possibly hail are headed this way.

Thunderstorms will likely dampen central Maryland Friday afternoon and evening, said the National Weather Service (NWS), and Howard County is among the locations on alert for flash flooding.

A flash flood watch is in effect from 3 p.m to 10 p.m. for Howard, Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Harford, Montgomery and Carroll counties, said the NWS.

A flash flood watch means that "conditions may develop that could lead to flash flooding," said the NWS. During a flash flood, streams can rise rapidly and soil can become saturated, causing runoff and mudslides.
