Flood, Hail, Wind, Possible Tornado

Howard County is under a severe thunderstorm watch through 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Howard County and most of central Maryland, in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

“Large hail and damaging wind gusts are the primary threats. An isolated tornado will also be possible,” stated the National Weather Service's report.

There is an additional risk of flash flooding, according to the statement. During a flash flood, water surges as a result of heavy rainfall over a short period of time; officials advise citizens to seek high ground and avoid driving on partially submerged roadways because water depth is often unclear.
