It was a big week in Howard County for news, as officials gathered to talk about bullies, fans mobilized to honor the life and passing of Steve Jobs and cancer survivors participated in a triathlon.

It’s a distraction. Kids take a long time changing into their costumes. And many children don’t even celebrate it anymore. Those were some of the reasons Rockburn Elementary said this week it would not be celebrating Halloween as a school-wide event. Less than a year ago, 29-year-old Katie Anderson was diagnosed with breast cancer. But she didn’t let that stop her from swimming nearly a mile, biking 56 miles and running 13 miles during the  at Centennial Park in Ellicott City.
