Howard County Students Rewarded for Volunteerism

The three local students each have a shot at $10,000 scholarship courtesy of Kohl's.

Kohl’s has awarded students from across Maryland part of the more than $400,000 in scholarships and prizes it doles out annually. 

This year, the store has recognized 47 students from Maryland, ranging from 7 to 18-years-old, for their volunteer work in local communities.

As part of the Kohl’s Cares program, each of the winners will receive a $50 gift card and as well a certificate recognizing their community service, according to a statement released by the Wisconsin-based department store.

To be eligible for the scholarships, an adult must nominate a student who has not yet graduated from high school. The student's volunteer work must be out lined in the submission and must have been done in the past year.

In Howard County, the following students have been recognized:

  • Abrams, Mia, 9, Ellicott City
  • Argeroplos, Nikephoros, 18, Woodbine
  • Delen, Ali, 18, Woodstock

The winners are also eligible to win one o 200 regional prizes – a $1,000 scholarship for higher education, to be awarded in July. Ten of the regional winners will ultimately walk away with $10,000 in scholarships as well as a chance to have a $1,000 donation made to the charity of their choice. 

For 13 years, the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program has recognized more than 19,000 kids and awarded more than $3.9 million in scholarship money to, according to a statement.
