Mayfield Avenue Repaving to be Complete by Tuesday

Construction workers wrap up roadwork after school started at Mayfield Woods on Aug. 27.

Mayfield Avenue has been torn up since mid August, but county officials say that roadwork should be complete soon.

"Weather permitting, Mayfield Avenue should be paved and striped this week," said Traffic Engineer Ray Mercado, of the Howard County Department of Public Works.

Speed humps that were removed from the road during resurfacing will be replaced later, said Mercado.

"Since the paving is still underway and the crosswalks are not yet lined, please remind your child to cross only with the crossing guard at Mayfield Avenue and Red Barn Way," stated the email. "Our primary concern is the safety of your child."

The project to extend the right-hand turn lane on Mayfield Avenue onto Route 108 was slated to begin July 23 and end by the end of July, according to the county.

Signage on Mayfield Avenue indicates the project began Aug. 15.

"Many times paving schedules are moved up or down due to various circumstances," explained Mercado.

Work on Great Star Drive and the right turn lane extension on Mayfield at MD Route 108 delayed the repaving of Mayfied Avenue, said Project Manager Howard Shieh, of Howard County's Department of Public Works. One contractor was working on both projects, said officials.

The work should be complete by Tuesday on Mayfield, said Shieh.

"The repaving of Mayfield Avenue will be completed by tomorrow," wrote Shieh in an email to Elkridge Patch on Monday, Aug. 27.

Shieh said the Mayfied Avenue project cost $250,000.
