  • The Elkridge office is one of several Northrop Grumman locations that will be handing out pink slips today. The defense contracting company that on May 17, it would trim 200 positions, from Florida to Connecticut, as a result of cuts in defense spending.
  • Today is the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the court case in Kansas that set the precedent for desegregating American schools. The Supreme Court made the landmark decision on May 17, 1954, establishing that it was unconstitutional to separate public schools based on race.
  • Speaking of school boards, the Howard County Board of Education’s Community Advisory Council will meet today at 7 p.m. at in Ellicott City. This council serves as a channel for public concerns, which the group then communicates to the Board of Education.
