On this day in 1998, the U.S. Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft. The case—which centered around allegations that Microsoft packaged Internet Explorer on its operating systems and excluded other browsers—wasn’t settled until 2002. The terms of the settlement expired last week, on May 12, 2011.
