Parks: Open but Still Recovering

In Howard County, parks are open; some areas are closed because of flooding.

All Howard County parks are open, according to John Marshall, deputy director of the Department of Recreation and Parks.

"There may be trails/paths/sections within each park that still have down limbs and [high] water levels," said Alexandra King, spokeswoman for Howard County government, who urged residents to exercise caution.

Due to flooding, the Maryland Park Service closed the Glen Artney area of on Friday afternoon. Other areas of the park remain open.

On trails that are passable, Maryland's Department of Natural Resources (DNR) advised parkgoers to avoid wildlife that may have been displaced by the weather. “The best strategy for humans is to leave these animals alone,” said Paul Peditto, DNR’s director of Wildlife and Heritage Service, in a written statement.
