Residents of Howard County, Take Cover: Storms Sweep Area

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch and flash flood warning for Howard County.

Howard County residents should take cover, according to the National Weather Service, as severe thunderstorms descend on central Maryland.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado watch Thursday morning, which is in effect until 3 p.m. A flash flood warning is in effect until 12:30 p.m.

Heavy winds, gusting up to 50 mph, are possible, said NWS. As a result, officials advise residents to stay indoors.

If they are on the roads, people should watch for flooding. "Never drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the roadway," said NWS officials, who stated that most flood deaths occur in automobiles. "Turn around...don't drown."
