UPDATE: Northbound B-W Parkway Closed From Construction Delay

Construction crews will be replacing two overpass bridges in Linthicum.

UPDATE (12:30 p.m. Saturday)—A delay in construction of an overpass on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, MD-295, has caused the State Highways Administration (SHA) to close a section of northbound MD-295 at West Nursery Road and redirect traffic to I-95, MD-1, MD-29 and I-97, according to a SHA press release.

As crews attempted to transport the new bridge deck for the overpass, the deck shifted on the transport vehicle. Safety inspectors will check to make sure the integrity of the deck is still safe for transportation. This inspection is expected to be complete by Saturday night or Sunday morning, according to the SHA statement.

"SHA is making every effort to safely expedite the process of placing the West Nursery Road Bridge back onto its foundation and re-open northbound MD 295 and West Nursery Road as soon as possible," said SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters in a release. "SHA apologizes for the inconvenience to motorists and will re-open the roadways as soon as safe. We will conduct a thorough investigation to determine what happened and why."

A section of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, MD-295, in Linthicum will be shut down on two Friday nights and Saturday nights in October, according to a statement from the Maryland State Highway Administration.

Traffic crews will detour vehicles into single lanes during construction hours, using the ramps from West Nursery Road, but SHA is telling drivers to use other routes.

"For the safety of work crews and drivers, SHA is urging motorists to plan now for overnight travel on these weekends. Use MD 5-1-1 to determine the best alternate routes," said SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters, in a press release.

According to the SHA, crews are currently constructing two bridges for the overpass of West Nursery Road in the median of MD-295, and they will replace the current bridges during the two weekend closures.

  • All lanes of MD-295 closed in both directions at 11 p.m.
