Snow (Ice) Day Roundup for Jan. 18

Find the status of events that have been postponed (or not) due to weather conditions.

Howard County Public Schools have canceled classes Tuesday as well as all other school-related events. Government offices delayed opening one to two hours Tuesday morning. But as the day continues, it appears not everything has come to a standstill. Here's a roundup of some events that are still going on and which others have been rescheduled.

Howard County Council will still hold its legislative hearing Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the George Howard Building (3430 Courthouse Dr., Ellicott City, MD 21043). View the agenda here.

Bellows Spring Elementary School has postponed its choral concert scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. The new date is not available yet. This is the second time the event has been postponed; originally slated for Jan. 11, last week the performance was canceled due to snow.

Deep Run Elementary School canceled its . The new date has not yet been determined for when students will be able to take their trip to the aquarium.

Elkridge Elementary School has canceled its strings concert, scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. The new date has not yet been released. will still be holding its at so if you don't feel like cooking, head to the Tex-Mex restaurant for some dinner; 10 percent of proceeds from your meal between 5 and 10 p.m. will go to the PTA.

Howard High School has revised its midterm exam schedule:

  • Period 1 and 2 exams will be given on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
  • Period 3 and 4A exams will be given on Thursday, Jan. 20.
  • Period 5 and 4B will be given on Friday, Jan. 21.
  • Period 6 exam will be given on Tuesday, Jan. 25, in the regular time slots for period 5 and 6.
  • The schedule for Tuesday will be a regular, full-day schedule.  

Long Reach High School has canceled its "Registration and Scheduling Night" scheduled for 7 p.m. This is the second time the school has had to postpone the event due to weather-related conditions. The new date is not yet available.

Trash and recycling pickup

Trash and recycling pickup will continue as scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 18, according to the Department of Public Works. Officials remind residents of the following: "Trash, recycling and yard-waste receptacles must be placed at the curb free of snow and ice, so that the collectors can access them. Collection personnel will not dig residents' containers out from under snow or ice."
