Things to Know About Elkridge: June 10

Head into the day a little more informed.

It's still going to be hot, but showers could cool you off. Friday’s high is 92 degrees with a 40 percent chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). In the evening, the low is 72 degrees for Elkridge, and the likelihood of rain increases, with the NWS reporting there’s a 50 percent chance.

If you’re traveling on Gorman Road, stay alert because the county just installed a new traffic light there. The traffic light will replace stop signs near the intersection of Gorman at Stephens Road/Stone Lake Drive. According to county officials, the project was required by the Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance; the Howard Hughes Corporation funded the changes to accommodate traffic resulting from its development called Emerson, which is slated to bring 1,200 homes to the area.

Two years ago on this day, an Elkridge man was sentenced to seven years in prison following a dispute over $1. The man asked a teen in Capitol Mobile Home Park if he could borrow $1; upon refusal, the man assaulted the teen, according to the State’s Attorney, who said the penalty was “toward the top of the sentencing guidelines” since the man had attempted another Elkridge robbery less than 60 days before and been put on probation months prior.
