Things to Know About Elkridge Today: July 3

Rain is likely, dos and don'ts of fireworks, and a murder case revisited.

Planning a BBQ? You may want to bring it indoors since rain is a strong possibility on Sunday. There’s a 60 percent chance of rain during the day and a 40 percent chance of rain in the evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Temperatures in Elkridge may climb to 88 degrees during the day and drop to 69 at night, said the NWS.

If you feel the urge to get fired up today, here are the dos and don’ts as far as fireworks in Howard County: Handheld sparklers, party poppers, ignitable “snakes” and “snap ‘n pops” are OK. Ground-based sparklers and other fireworks are prohibited.

On this day in 1997, friends of a missing Elkridge woman held a vigil for her, according to the Baltimore Sun. The body of Nancy Riggins, who lived in Canbury Woods with her family, wasn’t found until more than 10 years after her July 1996 disappearance. Her husband, Paul Stephen Riggins Jr., provided the location of her remains in 2007 as part of a bargain regarding his 2016 parole hearing, according to the Baltimore Sun. Riggins is currently in the Jessup Correctional Institution, where he is serving a life sentence.
