Things to Know About Elkridge Today: July 5

Head into the day a little more informed.

Temperatures could climb as high as 90 degrees today in Elkridge, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). In the evening, it should cool off a bit, with the NWS reporting a low of 68.

There’s an air quality alert in effect Tuesday for Howard, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford and Caroll Counties. Children, older adults and people with heart/lung/asthma issues should avoid exercising outdoors today, according to the Maryland Department of the Environment.

Tonight the County Council will be meeting. On the agenda: vote on an act providing property tax credits to nonprofit swim clubs. "The state allows each county to reduce the taxes of swim clubs to help keep them in business, thus keeping the value of neighboring homes high, which brings in more tax revenue," wrote Councilwoman Courtney Watson on her Facebook page. "Howard County has not reduced the taxes for swim clubs."
