Things to Know About Elkridge Today: June 22

Temperatures may climb to 89 degrees during the day and go down to 72 at night, according to the National Weather Service. Chance of rain: 50 percent.

This morning, WYPR 88.1 FM will be airing a segment on the intermodal facility coming to central Maryland during Maryland Morning with Sheilah Kast. The radio show runs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Today is the last day of the academic year for students in Howard County public schools, with classes ending three hours early. The health rooms remind parents that if kids have medications in the infirmaries, they must pick them up today or the school is required by law to dispose of them. The 2011–2012 school year begins on Aug. 29.

On this day in 1979, Troy was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Built in the early 19th century, the Elkridge mansion was “executed in stone rather than the more usual brick, an obvious effort to achieve a high level of style for a county becoming increasingly more cosmopolitan,” according to the Maryland Historic Trust.
