Possible Tornado Touches Down in Howard County

HCDFRS: Garage was 'flattened.'

An "unconfirmed" tornado has touched down in Howard County, destroying two structures, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS).

Crews were called to the 3200 block of Starting Gate Court in Woodbine just after 7 p.m. for a report of a building collapse. When they got there, however, “they saw a building and a garage shed that were basically flattened,” according to HCDFRS spokesperson Jackie Cutler.

The debris in the yard also followed a trail that indicated a tornado touchdown, according to Cutler.

"It looks like tornado came that way," she said, later describing the event as an "unconfirmed tornado."

Either the National Weather Service or the Maryland Emergency Management Agency will verify whether or not Monday night's weather event was a tornado, according to Cutler.

The home was not damaged and two residents were not injured, Cutler said. Crews on the scene say there is still “active weather” in the area, according to Cutler, including moving and still water in the roads, especially on Woodbine Road.

The National Weather Service had issued several tornado and flash flood watches throughout the night, Monday.

This article has been edited to indicate that a tornado touchdown was not confirmed as of Monday night.
