Work on the Railroad Near Elkridge is Routine, Say Officials

CSX is replacing ties on Elkridge, Hanover tracks.

The people working on the railroad near Elkridge are performing routine maintenance, according to representatives from CSX, the company that owns the tracks.

“CSX crews have been replacing approximately 10,000 crossties in the area as part of the railroad’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient railroad,” said Bob Sullivan, spokesman for CSX.

Members of the “tie gang” at the crossing near Hanover Road and Anderson Avenue confirmed that they were indeed working on replacing the ties. They were curious about the “STOP INTERMODAL NOW” signs they saw sprinkled throughout the greater Elkridge area and assured Patch that they were not building or working on anything intermodal-related.

“The work is consistent with projects that occur all across the railroad’s 21,000-mile system on an ongoing basis,” said Sullivan.

CSX crews have been replacing the crossties for the past two weeks, said Sullivan, and work is expected to be complete next week.
