Community Corner

Connect the Dots/ Climate Action Day

Climate Change Initiative of Howard County will help issue a wake-up call about the connection between our actions and climate change on Saturday, May 5. As part of 350.org’s Connect the Dots day of action, communities around the world will call attention to the effects of climate change, including melting glaciers, droughts and eroding shorelines, and the continuing subsidies for the fossil fuel industry. There will be two events in Howard County that day, each involving a group photograph with a large dot to post with others from around the world on 350.org’s web page. These events are free and open to the public.

* At 10 a.m., the Columbia Association will highlight a new solar energy project near the River Hill neighborhood pool. The public is invited to meet at the solar array along Route 32 in River Hill. Park at the River Hill community pool lot off Trotter Road near the intersection with Summer Sunrise Drive. For more information: www.hococlimatechange.org

* At 3 p.m., Transition Howard County will have a free screening of “In Transition 2.0” at Miller Library, 9421 Frederick Rd, Ellicott City. This new movie captures inspiring stories of initiatives around the world where people respond to climate change and peak oil with creative solutions and engaged optimism.
