Sewage Overflow Reported in Little Patuxent

Rain caused the spill, according to the Howard County Health Department.

There was a sewage spill at the Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant, the Howard County Health Department reported on Monday.

Between 100,000 and 300,000 gallons of sewage was affected, according to the department's report, which said that due to Sunday's rain, some of the material bypassed filters and entered the Little Patuxent.

As a result, the public should avoid contact with the area, according to the report.

Staff is working on disinfection and the Maryland Department of the Environment will be notified, the health department reported.
